Thanks for that advice, could have used it before I designed my site with flash over year ago, but that is what i planned at the time. Ill make use of your advice in the next revision of my site.

Maybe you can answer this scenario.. After I graduated, I didn't have all of my projects to a finished standard, so it took me quite some time to go back and work them and compile the projects into my website. By then the economy was really poor and I didn't have the resources to go and risk moving to a more industry rich location where freelance work availability was greater.

My best option at the time was move back in with the rents and attend the school of self while keeping up on new tools and software. Well it’s been over a year and I've managed to keep up on my tools and have been working with prior and now current knowledge in website design to secure some income. I want to be successful in the game or movie industry as a modeler texture artist.

I completed a 3 year internship while in school developing multiple versions of 3dsmax, took the last year off to focus on school, and have now been out of school over a year. Starting to feel being without an industry related job for over two years could soon be getting in the way of me landing a position. Although I haven't really launched a job searching campaign either.

So my question is, are there any available options relating this to potential employers when we’ve been keeping up with tools and skills but don't have the experience to back it up. (Other than our collection of work, is there a way to explain this without it damaging our credibility via cover letters etc)

My area of living right now doesn't have many positions for 3d artists and its taking me time to get my reel together to a standard I know I'm capable of achieving.

I don't want to waste time applying to places when often times work is never seen because a position is filled before the end of the list is reached. Who knows where those online submission forms really go too?

Sometimes time is better spent working on new projects.

My thinking has been to keep doing web development to try and pay the bills rather than get a low-end game artist position where the majority of next gen technology I'm learning doesn't really apply.

Well sorry for the long response but thought maybe others out there may be experiencing similar circumstances. Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks!
