Greg Benson of Mediocre Films is anything but mediocre

Recently a group of my friends and I were talking about YouTube and one said, “We should just get together, make stupid videos, put them up on YouTube and make a bunch of money.” Would it really be that easy? Currently YouTube gets about a billion views a day; you read that correctly one billion! Last month an article came out on businessinsider.com talking about those individuals that were cashing in on their YouTube success to a cool $100,000 plus a year, Business Insider Since the article came out, many of those profiled have said the figures mentioned were exaggerated. Regardless of the exact dollar amount, many people all over the country are creating content and cashing in.

30 Days Without Facebook: One woman’s journey to deactivating her life, Part 1

“I stopped using Facebook too!”  I was having a conversation with Zoic Studios Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director Loni Peristere about this post and talking about why I chose to deactivate my Facebook account for thirty days and sharing it with the IDYE readers.  I felt as though Loni and I shared a moment of understanding and solidarity .  A few months back he stopped checking his Facebook account until recently when he posted some photos of a wedding he attended.  I asked him how it felt to disengage, thinking that he was going to tell me how much better it was to not be using Facebook anymore.  ”Oh I felt completely disconnected from everyone!  It was really strange.”  Loni felt that Facebook was taking up too much of his time, which is why he stopped using it and yet he felt disconnected without it.  The experiment: stop using Facebook for thirty days, suddenly felt a lot less promising.

Devil

What’s the scariest thing you can think of? For some people it’s clowns, others it’s being attacked by sharks and for others it’s being confined to a small space. In the movie Devil, coming out nationwide today, the film explores being trapped in a confined space and brings it to a whole new level. Five strangers get stuck in an elevator and strange things begin to occur. Why? One of these people is the Devil.

Zoic Playlist of the month for September: Pop Princess

I recall being about five years old and in my parent’s living room when I saw a woman on television with a shock of blonde hair, wearing a blue skirt covered in sequins.  She was standing on a stage, microphone in hand.  Behind her three men, a drummer, guitar player and bass player.  The guitar player and drummer began to play and the woman began to move her hips and then suddenly I saw just her face.  She had bright light pink lipstick and her eyes were covered in blue, the same shade as her skirt.  She opened her mouth, started to sing and I remember the words, “Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a heart of glass. Seemed like the real thing, only to find, mucho mistrust.  Love’s gone behind.”  I moved closer to the television and my mother told me to make sure I didn’t get too close.  I stepped away and just watched in awe as this blonde haired woman continued to sing out.  Blondie’s, “Heart of Glass,” was my first experience with pop music.
